Going on an Unpaid Leave of Absence

Starting the Leave

When you go on a leave, your employer will report it to us. We will then communicate with you directly about your options related to your benefits coverage during your leave.

To keep your HEB Manitoba Benefits coverage, you must pay both the employee and employer share of the premiums during your leave. See the Plan brochures for details.

During the Leave

You must report any changes to your coverage or eligible dependants within 60 calendar days of the change or restrictions may apply. If you need to report the death of a dependent child or spouse/common-law partner, please contact us.

Returning From the Leave

Your employer will report your return to work to HEB Manitoba; you do not need to take any action.
Premiums/contributions and coverage will be reinstated automatically providing your eligibility has not changed.

On your return from leave, you may be eligible to:

  • Buy back missed pensionable service.
  • Reinstate your D&R coverage if you did not maintain it during your leave. See the Plan brochure for more information.
