When Coverage IS Maintained

When your leave begins...
Pension contributions stop  Premiums are no longer remitted through payroll.* 

*If you are on an unpaid sick leave, HEB Manitoba will maintain your Life Insurance coverage at no cost to you for up to 12 consecutive months.
   If you choose to maintain coverage...
You do not have the option to make contributions during your leave.

Employment service will be granted for up to 54 weeks if your approved unpaid leave is less than 24 months in length and you return to work with the same employer.
 Your D&R coverage stays active while you are on your leave.

You can apply for a D&R claim if you become ill or injured during your leave.

You will keep your original Effective Date of Coverage. 

You will be eligible to transfer your D&R coverage if you accept a different job at another D&R Plan Participating Employer while you are on your leave.
Coverage will continue uninterrupted. To keep Personal coverage, you must pay premiums for both Basic and Optional Personal Life Insurance if applicable. 

You can keep or temporarily suspend Family Life Insurance coverage independently of Personal Life Insurance coverage.
 When you return to work…
Employee and employer contributions will resume through payroll. 

You will have the option to buy back periods of missed pensionable service.
Employee and employer contributions through payroll will resume. 

If you have overpaid any premiums, a refund will be issued.

 



When Coverage IS NOT Maintained

When your leave begins...

*If you are on an unpaid sick leave, HEB Manitoba will maintain your Life Insurance coverage at no cost to you for up to 12 consecutive months.
   If you choose not to prepay premiums to maintain coverage...
You do not have the option to make contributions during your leave.

Employment service will be granted for up to 54 weeks if your approved unpaid leave is less than 24 months in length and you return to work with the same employer.
Coverage under the D&R Plan terminates effective the first day of your leave.

You will not be eligible to apply to receive D&R Benefits 
if you become totally disabled while you are on leave.
Your coverage will end on the last day of the month following your last premium deduction.

You will not be eligible to make claims for any services you use during your leave.

Your Healthcare Spending Account amount may be affected.
Your Life Insurance coverage will end on the last day premiums were payable.
 When you return to work…
Employee and employer contributions will resume through payroll. 

You will have the option to buy back periods of missed pensionable service.
Premiums and coverage will resume.

You will have a new Effective Date of Coverage and may be subject to the pre-existing condition limitation.

You may be eligible to pay premiums to reinstate your D&R coverage to keep your original Effective Date of Coverage.
